The University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for the position of Sound Manager Instructor.
The College of Arts and Humanities is seeking to hire an Academic/Instructional staff position in Sound Design and Production. This 12-month position includes a wide variety of responsibilities including: teaching two academic courses a year in audio production, providing sound engineering for music department Range (contemporary a cappella), Jazz groups and other music department ensembles, providing theatrical sound designs for the Theatre Arts Department main stage season, and attending/managing sound needs for the Regional Center for the Arts and Humanities (RITA). This individual will be involved in additional supervision and mentoring of students through production work.
Education, Experience, Training And/or Certifications
Masters degree in Audio Production, Theatrical Sound Design, Audio Technology, or
Bachelors in Audio Production, Theatrical Sound Design, Audio Technology with 3 years of professional experience.
Proficient understanding of Engineering in common audio software and equipment.
Teaching and/or mentoring experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and MentoringTeach two academic courses per year in audio design and production, and a general education course in the area of acoustics.
Mentor student designers and technicians in the music department events and theatre art department productions.
Career advising and mentoring of students.
Participate in annual academic and artistic assessments of Theatre Arts company members.
Sound SupportDesign 2-3 productions in the Theatre Arts department during the academic year.
Serve as the audio engineer for all Music department events.
Hire and manage any necessary crews.
Participation in Theatre Department weekly department and production meetings.
Maintain all audio equipment for the Regional Center for the Arts and Humanities, Department of Theatre Arts, and Department of Music.
Ability to learn the following: audio software/digital audio workstation, Protools, LogicPro, Abelton Live, and Alab (Thea)
Sound Maintenance, inventory, and facility infrastructureManage, maintain, repair, upgrade inventory of all sound equipment for the Regional center for the arts and humanities (Rita).
Manage schedule of events that require sound production.
Develop and recommend long-range plans, objectives, and facility sound needs for the Rita.
