The Young People’s Theatre of Chicago seeks a Choreographer for our upcoming summer-camp production of Moana Jr.
“We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that [they are] someone today.” – Stacia Tauscher
Here at the Young People’s Theatre of Chicago, we believe that young artists should be seen as the professionals they are TODAY, and have the opportunity to train as such. Our classes and camps provide a supportive environment where performers can hone their skills alongside industry professionals. Campers ages 11+ will participate in our YPT School’s-Out Conservatory (featuring Hadestown: Teen Edition) while campers ages 6-10 will participate in our Summer Storylites:
Summer Storylites
YPT’s Summer Storylites is a foundational program where students aged 6-10 have the opportunity to develop confidence in their performance skills while exploring the fun of theatre. Storylites will dive into introductory acting, singing, and dancing technique with a focus on games/play before applying their newfound skills to a fully produced show in YPT’s Downstairs MainStage Theatre. This year’s production: Moana Jr.
DATES: June 29th – July 24th, Monday – Friday from 9:30am to 1:00pm. Final performances take place on July 23rd and 24th for the general public.
In order to ensure personalized attention and growth in our programs, the YPT Summer Storylites will accept no more than 15-20 campers.
ROLE EXPECTATIONS
As Choreographer, you will be charged with honing the dance technique of campers, and curating their skills into choreography for their final performance of Moana Jr. You must be available for all movement, tech, and performance blocks – a mockup of our 2026 schedule can be found HERE.
RATE
There is a stipend of $850 for this position. The Choreographer role can also be combined with the Director role ($1,250 stipend) if desired.
