Website Young People's Theatre of Chicago

The Young People’s Theatre of Chicago (YPT) seeks a Costume Designer for its upcoming stage adaptation of The Hula-Hoopin’ Queen.

Evanston playwright Gloria Bond Clunie’s sweet, funny, and spirited 6-person adaptation of Thelma Lynn Godin’s award-winning children’s book follows three Harlem girls and their loving families as they vie for the coveted crown of neighborhood Hula-Hoopin’ Queen! Championed by Oprah Winfrey, this Chicago Public Library’s “Best of the Best” award-winner is a joyful reminder of the essentials that bind our communities!

This story centers artists of color, and as such, we would like to especially encourage those who resonate with this identity to apply.

Currently in its fourth season of operations, YPT is the professional Theatre For Young Audiences company in-residence at The Greenhouse Theater Center.

SCHEDULE

The Hula-Hoopin’ Queen goes into rehearsal on April 13. Tech begins on May 3 and the production opens May 9.
